Our last newsletter covered all the excitement of June 2023. Now we're looking back on our past July. It was a superb month for fishing, weather, whales and wildlife.

Always a popular month for family trips, we had plenty of junior anglers visit us with their families in July. With a solid mix of coho and chinook salmon in local waters, it's a great month to hook young anglers on the thrills of saltwater fishing. By mid July the coho salmon were thick on the east sides of Langara and Graham islands. Coast wide coho salmon numbers were excellent and we enjoyed this superb fishery throughout July, August and into September.

July 18th was the day Island Lodge saw its largest chinook salmon of the season. This chrome slab, caught by guest Landon Poffenroth measured out to 56.5 pounds, before being released by guide, and big fish magnet, Tommy Thomson. 

The spectacular whale shows that we enjoyed all season were all-time in July. This large humpback was just one of dozens living its best life along the Langara shoreline. Did you know one of the distinguishing features of humpbacks is that their long pectoral fins can reach one third of their body length?
