Langara Island has long been synonymous with world-class saltwater fishing. Anglers from around the world travel to Langara for its incredible salmon fishing, a saltwater fishing paradise offering fishing like nowhere else on the Pacific Coast.

There are several reasons why fishing at Langara Island is so special. The style of fishing is a main attraction, we still fish weight and bait on light tackle. No downriggers or offshore trolling, this is salmon fishing the way it was meant to be, in shallow waters, close to shore, targeting big, wild fish! Another reason why guests love Langara Island is it offers the longest salmon fishing season anywhere on the coast. The rich waters offer migrating salmon their first major feeding station when coming off the open Pacific. Langara Island chinook and coho salmon bite hard and fight harder.

Last, but not least, Langara Island Lodge’s unique positioning puts us at the doorstep of it all. There are no long runs when fishing here, with 30 great spots to fish within 15 minutes of our dock, you’ll spend more time reeling, and less time running.

Style of Fishing

Our style of fishing is the traditional method of cut-plug herring fishing on light tackle and weighted rods. We generally fish shallow waters very close to shore.

This is an incredible fun (and effective!) way to target big fish along our kelp rich shorelines. There are few places anywhere in the world where you can still fish this style, a special part about fishing at Langara Island.

What Can We Take Home?

Salmon limits change throughout the season. Generally speaking you can take home a total of eight salmon, only four of which can be chinook salmon, with a daily limit of four salmon per day. For more information on how your catch will be cared for please visit our Catch Care page.
