First Day Of The 2023 Season
After many months of anticipation and preparation, the 2023 season at Langara Island has officially begun. We had our first guests arrive this afternoon, amid a mix of sun and rain, and they're already out on the water. We're very excited for our 28th year of operation, welcoming old friends and introducing new ones. We're also pleased to bring you this fresh newsletter format, with the goal of sending out weekly reports and highlights.
Preparations at the lodge started in early April, with many of our staff arriving early to help with 'rig up'. There is never a shortage of things to do pre-season. From getting the lodges prepped, to finalizing the menus, to getting boats in the water, Langara Island Lodge is a bustling place well before any of our guests arrive. Below are a few photos from the first few days of fishing and the last few days of getting the lodge ready.
Fishing Report
But what about the fishing?
The fishing over the past ten days has been really good, with some nice chinook salmon and halibut around. You know we're in for some great fishing when chinooks are seen chasing bait fish on the surface!
There are lots of humpback whales in the area, feeding on all the herring and needlefish. Early season hotspots have included Cohoe Point, Andrews Point and the Fish Bowl.
