Langara's June Whale Show
It's been an epic week of whale watching at Langara Island. The bubble feeding humpbacks have returned with over 30 animals feeding on herring along Langara's eastern shores. Mature humpbacks can reach 80,000 pounds and can eat up to 1.5 tons of food a day!
A pod of killer whales has also arrived, circling the island feeding on chinook salmon. It is reported these are the AF Pod Alaskan Residents that are rarely sighted in Haida Gwaii. Such a privilege to witness these whales arrive at Langara! Here are a few pics taken in mid June.
Bubble Feeding Humpbacks
Getting their Fill
June is a special month at Langara Island as local waters play host to bubble feeding humpbacks. Currently there are two pods of bubble feeders, both actively feeding offshore on krill, needlefish and ample herring. They're not here all season, typically only in June and early July, a good reason to come early in the season!
