Late June '24 Langara Fishing Report
There's been some big salmon this week at Langara Island and some incredible whale shows. The fishing has improved, after a few slower tides, the salmon have moved into northern Haida Gwaii in significantly more solid numbers. Herring have been piling up along the western and northern shores of Langara on the flood tides and the salmon aren't far behind. Keep an eye out for our resident eagles, they're fun to watch as they glide out to grab a snack off the surface.
The orcas have also been putting on a show. There have been about 30 animals visiting the waters around Langara over the past week. It is reported that these specific orcas are AF Pod Alaskan Residents, a rare sight in Haida Gwaii! Coho salmon are making their way to Langara waters in targetable numbers as well. Most cohos are in the 5-8 pound range at this time of year but as they feed they will be putting on about a pound a week.

Big Wayner always makes the fish he catches look small. Good thing his favourite guide Mark McAneeley is there to hold them to give a bit of perspective.
