Summer Solstice in Haida Gwaii
Happy Summer Solstice from Langara Island! Today the sun rose at 5:15 AM and won't set until 10:30 PM! It has been a week of variable weather, starting with southeast winds that slowed fishing over the weekend and brought wet weather. A switch to northwest pushed fresh fish to the top end of the island, bringing them back to the shorelines of Langara.
There's been some excellent chinook fishing over the past few days at Boulder Bay, Langara Lighthouse, and Seath Point. There's also been plenty of humpback and orca whale activity islandwide, making for some epic wildlife viewing! This timeframe in June has historically offered very consistent salmon fishing at Langara and this week is no exception.

Hungry Humpbacks
The humpback whales that use bubble-net feeding have been gorging on herring along the northern shores of Langara. June is the best month to witness this incredible sight, when groups of humpbacks feed on herring and krill. Bubble-net feeding is considered a highly complex behavior that involves communication and cooperation among the animals.
