The Galapagos of the North
Wildlife at Langara
Surrounded by the wild Pacific, Langara Island is a remarkable destination for whale and wildlife viewing. Often compared to the the Galapagos Islands, Haida Gwaii's rich marine life is a dream destination for those in search of a wilderness experience on the northern waters of the open Pacific
Beyond whales, Langara's rich ecosystem boasts black bears, eagles, sea lions, and diverse bird species, ensuring an unforgettable, eco-conscious wildlife experience in this remote Canadian paradise. Most wildlife encounters happen while fishing, but an eco-tour at the lodge can be arranged with your guide.

Whales at Langara
There have been over 20 species of marine mammals recorded in Haida Gwaii. This includes orcas, humpbacks, migrating gray & blue whales, stellar sea lions and Pacific white-sided dolphins.
It is common to see pods of humpbacks and if you're lucky you might even see them bubble feeding on the ample population of bait fish found at Langara. Transient and resident orcas are a bit more elusive but like making their rounds at Langara Island as well.
