August is always a bustling month at Island Lodge and this year we had a fabulous month of fishing this season. The opportunities inshore for chinook salmon proved bountiful but the real action was a bit further offshore, as the salmon fishing was non-stop out in deeper waters. 

The wildlife show continued all season long, right until our last trip in early September. Humpback and orca whales are plentiful on the northern reaches of Haida Gwaii, a special part of the Langara experience.

Cut plugs didn't last long when we headed offshore in August. Coho and chinook fishing in the deeper waters was truly incredible! This was some of the best salmon fishing we have seen in a long time at Langara, with an amazing biomass of salmon and bait off the shores of Langara and Graham islands.

This year many of our bigger fish were caught earlier in the season but August still saw plenty of healthy chinook salmon cruising our local kelp beds. The waters of Langara Island teemed with baitfish all season long. In the later part of our year even more needlefish arrived at Cohoe Point, making for some spectacular shallow water chinook fishing.
